upcycled leaf bag

Just in time for Earth day I finished my entry for the "Trash to Treasure Contest.

This bag is made completely from stuff which I already owned before I decided to make it and is centered around the orange cloth strips.

The orange cloth strips, started out life as a bed sheet quite a while ago. The old and worn bed sheet was turned into cloth strips to fasten stuff in the rat cage. When I cleaned up recently I found that I had two big bags of cloth strips from various origins. So I decided to reduce the amount of cloth strips and make something useful at the same time.

The cloth strips were first woven into a fabric on a peg loom. I used simple white cotton yarn as warp.
The fabric is then connected into the bag shape with some more of the whit cotton yarn.
The decorative edge, the strap and the leaf are made from a cloth which I bought at a flea market to make a new cover for a chair. (I didn't make the cover yet, but there is still plenty of fabric left. )
The edges of the strap and the leaf are secured with green embroidery yarn which is not exactly the same color, but as close as I could get with my existing collection. The leaf also has some decorative embroidery done with yarn I already had.
The fastenings for the strap come from my little box with salvaged fastenings, d-rings, hooks and buckles.

I think that covers most of it. More pictures of various states of the process will follow.

The bag is actually the perfect size to fit a Din A4 block, or even a slightly larger magazine.
